We wish for peace, joy, and happiness for all the children throughout the world. Thank You! If you visit our child care program before lunch or snack time, you will see preschool-aged children signing as well as reciting this wish. Especially for Children in Eden Prairie strives to provide young children with a strong early childhood experience for infants through school-age.
Using the Creative Curriculum® model, teachers help children achieve individual as well as group goals through play-based learning. Monthly field trips, in-house visitors, and special family events enrich our program. We are located in the upper northwest corner of Eden Prairie, bordering Chanhassen and Minnetonka. EFC Eden Prairie was established in the fall of 1988 and have over 230 years of combined staff experience with children, and managers who have been here since the opening of this program. We invite you to visit our program and meet our teaching staff! We look forward to getting to know your family!
Hi! My name is Cathie and I am the director here at Especially for Children in Eden Prairie. I have worked at this center since 1988. I live in Chaska with my husband, Dave, and sons, Max and Sean. Max attends Minnetonka High School and Sean attends Minnetonka Middle School West. Both are alumni of EFC! I have my B.S. teaching degree from Winona State University with a major in Elementary Education and a minor in Early Childhood. I have taught toddlers and young preschoolers at the Eden Prairie location as well as held the position of assistant director. I knew as a little girl that I wanted to teach and work with children. I found my passion was working with early childhood aged children after I graduated from college and have been doing so ever since. I love their curiosity, enthusiasm for learning, and smiley faces. It is a privilege to be able to work with your young child(ren) each day and also get to know your families.

Over the years, I continued my education and am now teacher qualified. My interests are walking our pet, listening to music, and doing hook rugs. I enjoy working with children. Each day I can learn so much from them and as I love the children, they send their love to me in so many ways, as they discover their world around them. I feel it is a privilege to care for your child.

Before moving to the Twin Cities in June of 2018, I was a lead preschool teacher and curriculum coordinator for five years at a center in St. Cloud, MN. Outside of work, I enjoy the outdoors especially, rollerblading, being on the lake, and exploring state parks. I also enjoy spending any free moments with family and friends. I look forward to learning and helping the babies grow in the infant room.
Hi! My name is Larissa. I graduated from Eden Prairie High School in 2009. After high school, I continued my education at the University of Central Missouri. I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Child and Family Development. I love working with children of all ages. I’m looking forward to my new experience at EFC.
Hi! I have been working at EFC in the Chipmunk room since 2014. I really enjoy all of the energy this age group comes with on a daily basis and love exploring the world through their eyes. No day is ever quite the same and for that I am grateful! My husband, Dalton and I moved to Minnesota from Iowa two years ago after finishing college. I went to the University of Northern Iowa for a Bachelor’s degree in Family Services and Psychology. In my free time, I enjoy the outdoors (running, biking, camping), reading, and spending time with my family and friends.

My name is Lynn. I began my career with Especially for Children in November 1989. I graduated from the University of Minnesota with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education. I have worked with children 16 months to 4th grade, but have spent the most years in the Preschool age groups. I love that I have the opportunity to play a part in a child’s development. They are so much fun! In my off house I work part-time at Caribou Coffee, run a Mary Kay business, volunteering actively at my church and loving up my dog Jhing-Jhing!
I first started at Especially for Children as a sub in 1990; I loved it so much I became a full time staff person in the fall of 1991. Over the years I have left a few times to pursue other careers and opportunities. My latest return was in 2005 and I have been happy to be back ever since. Over my 20+ years I have worked with all age groups infants through school agers. Nowadays, you will find me working in the young and older preschool rooms. When not at EFC you may find me working behind the scenes at Children’s Theatre Company or Stages Theatre Company. From time to time you may also find me performing onstage in community theatres around town. My hobbies include acting, singing, attending theatre, riding my bike, swimming and watching movies. FUN FACT: My legal first name is really Ricky. My mom was a huge Ricky Nelson fan.

Hi! My name is Lynn, and I was the director at Especially for Children Eden Prairie from 1988 to 2018. I live in Waconia with my husband, Randy. I have been working in childcare centers since 1973 and have held the positions of teacher, assistant director, and director. I received my B.S. teaching degree in Elementary Education from Winona State University. Back in those days, colleges didn’t offer Early Childhood or Kindergarten Licensure programs. I have furthered my knowledge of early childhood development by taking postgraduate courses and through experiences working in various child care settings. I chose early education because every day is different. It’s wonderful to be on the ground floor watching children go from diapers to little adults and I enjoy the daily interactions with parents in helping families work. I have two grown children, Johanna and Tim.
Hi, I’m Kate and I’m so excited to be working with your child/ren! I have a bachelor’s degree in French and a minor in history and political science from Concordia College in Moorhead. I’m married and have four children; a college freshman son, a sophomore daughter and two middle school daughters. My oldest two children attended the Edina EFC and I couldn’t have been happier with the care and love they received there. I am the oldest of eight children in my family and have loved being around kids my whole life. I especially enjoy reading to children. My hobbies are reading, cooking and reading about cooking.
During our first tour of EFC I met the infant teacher who went out of her way to tell me all about the average day and the curriculum, show me projects and make me feel so incredibly welcome. Judging by all the children in the room and the teacher taking time with me, I was so impressed and excited that this was finally a great fit. You all continue to impress me with your patience, your positive attitudes and your genuine love to be with the kids. We now have two kiddos at EFC and most if not all of you have had a hand in their development as well as a positive influence in their formative years. As a working mom who is not able to stay home with her kids, I know they are being well taken care of and are happy at EFC. Thank you for all you do.
I just can’t tell you enough how much it means to us that you have welcomed Sam and created such a positive environment for him to come to every day. You have a wonderful center – and even more wonderful people. I had a good feeling the moment I walked in. Your jobs are not easy, but please know how much we appreciate all of the love, care and patience that you give the kids each day. Knowing Sam is with you puts me at ease every morning. Thank you!
We cannot overstate how lucky we feel that both of our daughters are enrolled at Especially for Children. After trying a home daycare and a nationwide center we feel that we have found the best of both worlds at Especially for Children. The staff does a remarkable job of creating an environment where the kids can develop socially and emotionally. It is such a wonderful feeling to know that our kids are in a safe environment while also learning critically important skills from such outstanding teachers. We were referred to Especially for Children from family friends and have since referred others. . .what more can you ask for?
Our experience with Especially for Children (EFC) in Eden Prairie has been a fantastic one. My husband and I both work full-time and we are forever grateful to have a fantastic caregiver for our son who has flourished in EFC’s fun learning environment. It is obvious that the teachers are passionate about their roles as educators, role models and playmates. The children are exposed to many different things including sign language, Spanish, music, sports, etc. We have referred several families to Especially for Children, all of whom have had similar experiences to ours. I should also mention that my husband’s two older boys attended EFC in Edina and his experience at that location was also extremely positive. It is comforting to know that the individuals our son spends a significant amount of time with are trustworthy educators who exude overwhelming compassion for children.
